Starlight Montessori

Preschool Program

05Starlight School’s preschool program is for children ages 3-6. After arriving to School, the children have circle time for 15 minutes where a greeting song is sung using all the children’s names, the children have an opportunity to share and ask questions and a new lesson is introduced. They then have a two-hour work period during which the children are free to roam about the classroom choosing their own activities or “works” as they are called. The children are free to work by themselves, with a friend or with a teacher. When they hear the music box playing, they clean up their work and come to second circle where a story is read and songs are sung. Once a week, they also have formal music and yoga. Sometimes, there might be a special guest doing a presentation of some kind (dentist, musician, artist, cultural presentation). They are then dismissed to go out to the playground for 25 minutes of play. Morning children are picked up at noon, full-day children have lunch and afternoon children arrive at 12:30 where the same schedule is repeated.
